11-Day Eastern Front Tour - 2019

Itinerary

• Day 1

  Passengers are greeted at Pulkovo International Airport in Saint Petersburg and transferred to the hotel. In the evening there is a tour orientation and a chance for the passengers to introduce themselves over a welcome drink.

• Day 2

  The day starts with a visit to Peter and Paul's Fortress on the Neva River. The afternoon features a visit to the Winter Palace, the official residence of Russian monarchs, today housing the world-famous Hermitage Museum. The Winter Palace also witnessed the fall of the Empire and the birth of the Soviet Union. We then head to the Cruiser Aurora, whose guns signalled the start of the assault on the Winter Palace, the beginning of the October Revolution.

• Day 3

  Visiting the Artillery Museum and the Peter and Paul's Fortress on the Neva River. The Artillery Museum has several versions of the Katyusha rocket launcher similar to the German Nebelwerfer. We round off the day with a sightseeing cruise on the Neva River.

• Day 4

  The day begins with a trip to the suburbs of Saint Petersburg in order to explore the German approach to Leningrad, the battlefields on the outskirts of town, ice road entry point, Lake Ladoga, Road of Life museum and the Monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad with lunch on the road. Passengers are free to explore Saint Petersburg in the afternoon at their leisure.

• Day 5

  We travel to Moscow with the Sapsan bullet train.The afternoon is dedicated to exploration of the superb Museum of the Great Patriotic War on Poklonnaya Hill.

• Day 6

  In the morning we take in the huge collection of WW2 armoured vehicles at the Kubinka Tank Museum, which has only just recently been open to Westerners. See Russian T-34 and KV Tanks, as well as German the Stug, Elephant and Panther II. The day continues retracing the steps of the German army’s closest approach to Moscow in the west and north.

• Day 7

  We spend the day in central Moscow including Lubyanka Square, Red Square, Lenin's tomb, the Kremlin and the GUM department store. The afternoon is dedicated to free time, allowing passengers to explore the Russian capital on their own. We conclude the day with a river cruise and dinner.

• Day 8

  Our guests are brought to the airport for their flight to Volgograd. This flight is included in our pricing and arranged by the tour operator. After arrival we visit the Stalingrad Panorama Museum and Pavlov's House: a four-story building in the centre of Stalingrad defended by a platoon led by Sgt. Yakov Pavlov for two months.

• Day 9

  We spend the day exploring the iconic locations of the Battle of Stalingrad: the Univermag Department Store that was Field Marshal Paulus’ last HQ and where he was captured, the Red October Steel Factory, the Tractor Factory, the Barrikady Gun Factory and Children's Khorovod, also known as the Barmaley Fountain. The program also includes free time with shopping opportunity in an authentic Russian mall.

• Day 10

  The last day of the tour is dedicated to the remaining wartime treasures of the former Stalingrad: the Grain Elevator near Tsaritsa Gorge, the giant Motherland Calls statue on Mamayev Kurgan and Lyudnikov’s Island: HQ to Chuikov and Khrushchev. We cap off with a river cruise on the Volga.

• Day 11

  After saying goodbye our guests are brought to Volgograd International Airport for their return flights home.
